Farming
Fresh food grown on our own Country. A community farming project bringing good food, training and jobs to the homelands.
Good food is good medicine. Our farming program grows fresh fruit and vegetables on our own Country, so families across the homelands have enough good food. It also creates training and jobs, and is the start of a community business.
What we’re building
- Community gardens growing fresh fruit and vegetables for homeland families, so less depends on long supply chains.
- Training and jobs. Hands-on growing skills (horticulture), with pathways to qualifications and paid work on Country.
- A step toward a business. Laying the foundations to sell produce to the local store, the health service and beyond.
Fresh food is health
Fresh food in remote communities is expensive, and often poor quality by the time it arrives. When we grow our own, food is fresher and cheaper, people eat better, and local people have work.
This program connects closely with our health promotion work on nutrition and healthy living.
