Our clinic

Our clinic is at Amengernterneah. Our nurses, Aboriginal Health Practitioners and trainees, social and mental health workers and doctor (Medical Officer or GP) live near the clinic. Specialist teams visit regularly.

Traditional healing is part of care here. You can ask to see a Ngangkere (traditional healer).

What we offer

Doctors and nurses

Health checks, wound care, and care when you are sick or hurt.

Ongoing care

Help with diabetes, and heart, kidney and lung problems (chronic disease). We make a care plan with you, check in regularly, and follow up on homeland visits.

Mums, babies and kids

Care in pregnancy, baby and child health checks, needles (immunisations), and checking that children are growing well.

Traditional healing

Ngangkere (traditional healer) care, alongside clinic care. Ask at the clinic.

Emergencies

Emergency care, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. After hours is for emergencies only. We work closely with the Royal Flying Doctor Service and Alice Springs Hospital.

Visiting specialists

Specialist doctors and health workers visit the clinic regularly: heart, mental health, ear nose and throat, women's health and pregnancy, eyes, children, diabetes and hormones, physio, and foot care (podiatry).

Visits to the homelands

Our clinic and wellbeing teams visit all sixteen homelands every week.

Medicines

We give out medicines, help you take them the right way, and bring them out on homeland visits.

Dialysis

Kidney dialysis at the Purple House, next to our clinic, for up to six people, so they can stay on Country instead of moving to Alice Springs.

The mobile clinic

Urapuntja is getting a mobile clinic: a clinic on wheels that drives out to the homelands, so people can see the clinic team close to home.

We won a grant for it, with support from Aboriginal Investment NT, and Mobile Health Clinics Australia is building it. It will help our teams reach all sixteen homelands.

Health promotion

Health promotion means helping people stay well: good food, no smoking, sport, school programs and community events.

Good food, strong culture, active kids. That's health care too.
